Microsoft Windows XP Has Expired!

So Windows XP has expired,  what do I do now to keep me safe?  Microsoft wants you to upgrade to a newer operating system.  They would like you to move to Windows 8 but I think most people would like Windows 7 better for now.  The only thing Windows 8 offers over Windows 7 is the Microsoft Store to purchase apps, Windows 8 also got rid of the Start Button which is confusing to most users.  Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate offer an option to run windows XP in a virtual machine to allow older programs to run under Windows 7. These Operating systems can run you between $100 to $200 depending on the version.  You will also have to reinstall all your programs and some hardware may not be supported, including some printers!

Their are options if you want to say with your old computer and not upgrade to the new Windows.

Option 1:

Stay with XP for a wile and wait until they fix Windows 8 and put the Start Button Back or Wait for Windows 9.  It seems like Microsoft get's every other Operating system correct and Windows 8 is the Not So Good Version like Millennium, and Vista.  You can get at least a year from XP if your careful.

A: I would create a NEW User,  call it Admin and create this Administrator User with a password.  Now log into that user and change your existing users to a limited accounts. Now when you use your limited account you'll give yourself the best protection against most attacks.  (Contact me for help)

B: Stop using Internet Explorer,  Switch to Chrome (Download) or FireFox (Download) They will protect your self better than IE.  They also Support Java Better than IE.

C: Keep your Java, Flash, and Adobe up to date!

D: Use a website monitoring software that protects you from going to bad Virus payload websites ( Contact me for this)

E: Keep a good antivirus installed on your machine and make sure you update it before going on the internet.  Also never open a file from your email until you have saved it on your desktop Wait at least 3 days for your antivirus to catch up and then scan it with your antivirus or send a copy here to test to see if it is infected www.virustotal.com  I believe Microsoft and Panda still have free antivirus.  If you have Comcast they have a free antivirus for you also.

Option 2:

Get Rid of Windows XP and Install a free OS from Ubuntu (download) that will allow you to browse the internet and work with office documents.

Option 3:

Upgrade to a newer Microsoft Operating System if your system supports it.  I would also recommend putting in a SSD Hardrive to make your machine run faster than a new computer system.  ( I can explain this in detail when you call)
